ȼ̓inaⱡ upxamik delves into the emotions that arose as I began to question why Indigenous culture is important to my life. It contrasts the feeling of fear embarking on a vulnerable journey and the feeling of excitement for the lessons that are to come forth. I question how I can look over preconceived notions I have made of what I think being in touch with culture looks like and find what it truly means to me.

Samantha Sutherland is a dance artist and choreographer based in Toronto, ON. She is proud to be an Indigenous woman of the Ktunaxa Nation. In 2018 she completed the Arts Umbrella Dance Graduate Program in Vancouver, BC. Samantha worked with Lesley Telford in Inverso Productions Performance Research Project where she performed at BLOOM: Dance in Vancouver and alongside Chor Leoni Men’s Choir. She also worked and performed as a guest artist with Ballet BC in their production of Romeo and Juliet by Medhi Walerski. In 2020 Samantha joined Red Sky Performance as an Associate Artist in Toronto. During her time with the company she performed Flow by Jera Wolfe in Fall for Dance North 2020. Samantha made her choreographic debut in the Harvest Moon Showcase presented by O.Dela Arts in the fall of 2021. She was mentored by Olivia Davies and Alejandro Ronceria.
