This site-alternative dance work was commissioned by New Works, and co-created with spoken word poet, Julie Peters for International Poetry Day, 2018. We explore themes of intimacy, connection, love, pain, and confusion located in the body–specifically in the voice and in the belly. We were inspired by Lee Maracle’s essay “My Love” from her book “I Am Woman: A Native Perspective on Sociology and Feminism.” Olivia speaks a passage from the essay with Maracle’s permission. The rest of the words are written and performed by Julie Peters.
